About

CD-i and Video CD have always had this strange appeal to me. As far back as I can remember i've loved movies and built up a healthy collection of VHS tapes throughout my childhood. By the early 90s Satellite TV and CD-i with Video CDs seemed to be brave new worlds to explore. Pester power got me Satellite TV but the CD-i was out of my reach.

The mid 90s, a PC and very early eBay combined together to finally let me experience a Video CD - 80s Cinematic Masterpiece Roadhouse no less. Then, close the turn of the millennium my first actual CD-i 210, thanks to Yahoo Auctions! I dabbled again with the CD-i, this time with a 450 model around 2010, discovering the joys of Plunderball for the first time. Numerous consoles and computers for games later and everything from Laserdisc, DVD, HD DVD, UMD and Blu Ray for movies and here I am starting again, with nothing but a CD-i 210 to entertain me and a healthy bookcase of games and VCD's that keeps on growing!

Like all CD-i fans, at least here in the UK, a go-to source of reading has always been the UK CD-i Magazine from the 90s. I was always aware of the odd piece of coverage in other magazines from the time though. It was always an idea to try and collect all these various reviews, previews and features scattered around into a file or scrapbook of some kind. Instead of cannibalising the few old periodicals that still exist 30 years later, I thought it better to go via a digital route and share anything I found on a basic blog. And here we are, welcome to the CD-i Scrapbook. All the reviews, previews, features, catalogues and sometimes whole magazines that I can find relating to the Philips CD-i, its games, interactive titles and movies and the Video CD format, along with the odd CD-i related article that comes to mind.

Enjoy,

     Mike
